The large-scale water-saving benefits of eco-cistem™ have been recognised at this year’s Northern Designerati Awards. Held on the 11th September in Manchester, editor Martin Allen-Smith praised its unique sustainable solution, inviting Paul Crossley, MD of eco-cistem™, to take to the stage to receive the award.

In his explanation for selecting this new toilet cistern, Martin applauded the benefits of using condensate grey waste water from growing air conditioning usage to save fresh water on a large scale, both in the UK and across the world. He quoted a couple of case studies in commercial office spaces in Bradford and Leeds, where annual savings are showing respectively 600,000 litres and 1,100,000 litres of fresh mains water.

Paul Crossley, MD of eco-cistem™ comments:

“We are delighted to have received this recognition from an editor who has been in the industry for almost 20 years and has been running these kitchen and bathroom awards since he started. I, too, have been in the industry for over 30 years and I am proud to be leading the drive to create awareness of this great innovation.  We have units currently being installed in hotels in both Barcelona and the UAE, and I am looking forward to reviewing the data from monitoring the fresh water savings over the coming months.”

eco-cistem™is a concealed toilet cistern that can be paired with any brand of sanitaryware. It is the only toilet cistern that uses the waste condensate water created by the building’s air conditioning units to flush the toilet. It has an 18-litre twin-chamber cistern that can store up to 12 litres of free condensate water above a standard 6-litre chamber dedicated to flushing the toilet. The unit prioritises using the grey water for flushing and only pulls in fresh water when no condensate water is available, therefore ensuring an efficient flush each time with no reduction in performance if the aircon system is not in use. The installation, which can be new build or retrofitted, requires that the pipework, which drains away the condensate from the aircon unit, be diverted to go into the eco-cistem™ cistern instead of straight into the waste pipe, which is most cases is a very simple diversion to plan.
