We are delighted to discover that our innovative eco-cistem™ water saving solution has been selected as a finalist in the ‘Best Trade Collaboration’ category of the designerati Awards North 2025 event. This prestigious event has been running for many years in London and this is the first time it will be held in Manchester too. The event will be at Manchester Hall, John Rylands Roof Top Terrace, on Thursday 11th September, where the winners will be revealed for all categories.

eco-cistem™ is a toilet cistern that uses condensate water from neighbouring air conditioning units for flushing, saving mains water on a large scale. The innovation came about as a collaboration between an MEP contracting company, with an understanding of the AV market and volume of condensate waste, a bathroom specialist, and a UK bathroom manufacturer of toilet fittings, Thomas Dudley. Together they created an innovation that would not have materialised without a successful trade collaboration.

The idea of using the condensate water, that’s created by air conditioning units (AV) in a building, came from the the directors of an MEP building company in Yorkshire called G&H who were helping a client achieve sustainability targets. Prototype test systems were created to redirect this ‘grey’ water from going directly to the waste pipe, into a special toilet cistern. In 2023 they consulted with Paul Crossley, a bathroom specialist, which enabled further product development to bring the product to market.

The product has been installed in many commercial buildings to date and is realising a 64% peak water saving, which translates to thousands of litres of fresh water saved per year.

eco-cistem™ is initially targeted at hotels, apartments and office blocks to prove large-scale water savings, but can work in domestic homes too. It has been created as a concealed installation and can fit in all standard service voids. It is simple to install for wall or frame-mounted WCs and has adjustable flush volumes between 2.5 and 6 litres.

Its cistern fittings have received WRAS approval and it has passed the AB Air Gap test conducted by KIWA, achieving Category 5 compliance. It is also eligible for BREEAM points under WAT 01 for water consumption and can earn up to six points in LEED’s water efficiency category.

eco-cistem™ is the world’s most environmentally friendly toilet.
